Security Token Service (STS) is a Web service that enables you to use Single Sign-on (SSO) in heterogeneous company or multi-company networks. STS acts as a token broker. Inside a company network, STS issues tokens needed for the communication between consumer and provider applications (application-to-application scenario). Access tokens enable clients to securely call protected web APIs, and are used by web APIs to perform authentication and authorization.
